Terms of use
Last updated October 26, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Moots. By using Moots you agree to them and to our privacy policy.
Who can use Moots
- You must be a current NYU student with an @nyu.edu email, and 18 or older.
- One account per person. Use your real first and last name, matching your NYU email.
- Keep your email account secure; anyone who can read your inbox can sign in as you.
Be a good moot
You agree not to:
- harass, threaten, bully, or demean anyone, including for their race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, or sexual orientation;
- send sexual content or images, or any content involving minors;
- pretend to be someone else, or make fake or duplicate accounts;
- share someone’s private information or screenshots of their profile or chats to embarrass them;
- sell anything, spam, or recruit people for outside services;
- pressure anyone to meet up, or keep contacting someone who blocked or ignored you;
- scrape, reverse engineer, or interfere with Moots, or use automated accounts;
- break the law or NYU’s rules.
Messages may be checked automatically for safety, and reports are reviewed by a person. We can warn, suspend, or remove accounts that break these terms, at our discretion.
Meeting people
Moots helps you connect with other students. We verify NYU email addresses but we can’t verify everything about everyone, and we don’t run background checks. Meet in public places, tell a friend where you’re going, and trust your instincts. If you’re in danger, call 911 or NYU Campus Safety at 212-998-2222.
Your content
You own what you post. You give Moots permission to store, display and process it to run the app (for example, showing your profile to other students and delivering your messages). You’re responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to post it.
Ending your account
You can delete your account anytime in the app. We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms or put others at risk.
Disclaimers
Moots is provided “as is.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we don’t promise Moots will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we aren’t responsible for how other students behave, on or off the app. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to Moots is limited to $100.
Apple
These terms are between you and Moots, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for Moots or its content, has no obligation to provide support for it, and is a third-party beneficiary of these terms with the right to enforce them.
Changes and law
We may update these terms and will tell you in the app before meaningful changes take effect. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
